Award-winning childrens and YA author Kiran Millwood Hargrave joins us to talk about her exciting new book, The Mercies.

Set in Norway in the early 1600’s, The Mercies follows the aftermath of a catastrophic event that claimed the lives of 40 men, lost to the waves at a remote northern fishing community. Now the women must fend for themselves.
Eighteen months later a sinister figure arrives, summoned from Scotland to purify the town of a mighty and terrible evil. Absalom Cornet knows what he needs to do… No matter the cost.

Inspired by the real events of the Vardø storm and the 1621 witch trials; with sparse beautiful prose and an ethereal atmosphere, Kiran explores witchcraft, superstition and religion in a powerful female-fronted historical fiction and her first adult novel.

Already listed as a BBC Radio 2 Book Club Pick, The Mercies is a story of love, evil, and obsession; and we can’t wait to welcome Kiran to tell us all about it!
