Minsteracres Peace Garden

LET’S GET GROWING (a not-for-profit community enterprise, passionate about sharing the therapeutic benefits of engaging with the natural world and tending a garden).

FRESH AIR, FRIENDSHIP AND FUN at MINSTERACRES PEACE GARDEN

This is a nature-based, therapeutic project working with people of all ages coping with a range of physical and mental health needs, including stress-related illness, dementia, recovering from a stroke/surgery or living with chronic long-term physical difficulties. We enjoy a stunningly beautiful natural environment at Minsteracres and have a comfy, indoor space for cold, wet weather which enables us to run all year round, offering a flexible range of activities. Here’s a sample of what we get up to:-

  • gentle walks
  • gardening
  • cooking and preserving produce
  • art-based activities
  • making herbal creams and syrups
  • time to relax, chat and have a laugh

Sessions currently run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.30am – 4.30pm. Home cooked lunch is provided and minibus provision is available from Hexham, Corbridge and Riding Mill.

Above all we offer friendship and acceptance for our participants and an invaluable day’s respite for their carers.

Here’s what people have said about the project:-

“The Minsteracres project has been a lifeline at a time when life didn’t feel worth living. It has given frienship, acceptance, kindness, support and skills”

“I feel extraordinary happiness in this place”

“For me, as wife and carer, the respite is so important – without it I would find it hard to carry on.”

The project is part-subsidised through charitable funding. Participants are asked to contribute £28/day to include transport, tea/coffee and a home-cooked lunch. Howvere it is our policy to exclude no-one for financial reasons and a bursary fund is available, offering full or part financial assistance.
