Forum Books Presents Picador at The Pele

Venue: The Vicar's Pele, Market Place, Corbridge, Northumberland

Lisa Owens and Hannah Kohler are two standout debuts for 2016, with two incredibly different books that will make for some great conversation!

In Not Working, Claire Flannery has quit her job in order to discover her true vocation – only to realize she has no idea how to go about finding it. ‘It’s fine,’ her grandmother says. ‘I remember what being your age was like – of course, I had four children under eight then, but modern life is different, you’ve got an awful lot on.’ Funny, sharp, tender and brilliantly observed, Not Working is the story of a life unravelling in minute and spectacular ways, and is this week’s BBC Radio Book at Bedtime.

The Outside Lands is the story of people caught in the slipstream of history, how we struggle in the face of loss to build our world, and how easily and with sudden violence it can be swept away. Hannah Kohler takes us from 1960s California to Vietnam, capturing what it means to live through historic times.

We hope you can join us – with Lisa and Hannah – at the newly refurbished & pretty wonderful Vicar’s Pele 7pm on Thursday 19th May. Tickets are the usual £5 including a glass of wine or something soft.
