In his new book, ‘Islander‘, Patrick Barkham takes a journey around our archipelago of 6,289 smaller islands and two large ones.
Some are like miniature nations, others like Ray Island are abandoned mysterious places haunted by myths, ghosts and foxes. In his evocative and vividly observed book Patrick Barkham explores some of the most beautiful landscapes in the British Isles, meeting islanders from nuns to puffins, from local legends to rare subspecies of vole, he seeks to discover what it is like to live on a small island, and what it means to be an islander. Original, informative and unexpectedly funny – ‘Islander’ is a wonderful book and, to bring it all to life, Patrick will have a slide show too.
