We are delighted to welcome back to Corbridge, and to our new bookshop, Natasha Solomons – bestselling author of ‘Mr. Rosenblum’s List’, ‘The Novel in the Viola’, which was chosen for the Richard & Judy Book Club, and ‘The Gallery of Vanished Husbands’ – who will be giving an illustrated talk called A Novel in Five Objects.
From Cartier’s Belle Epoque Diamond Butterfly to the telegram that brought America into the First World War, Natasha will talk is through how she spins historical research into immersive fiction. Her latest novel, ‘House of Gold’, began with the discovery of a portrait of her family in the Frankfurt ghetto. Find out how that inspired a story of money, power and a desperate marriage.
‘ Such is the power and wealth of the Goldbaums that on dull days, it’s said, they hire the sun just for themselves .’
The Goldbaum’s influence reaches across Europe. They are the confidantes and bankers of governments and emperors. Little happens without their say-so and even less without their knowledge.
But war is looming, and even the Goldbaums can’t alter its course. For the first time in two hundred years, the family will find themselves on opposing sides.
The House of Goldbaum, along with Europe herself, is about to break apart…
We hope you will join us, and Natasha, Wednesday 13th June, 7pm, to celebrate the release of her newest novel ‘House of Gold’ and to delve into the past – to discover the objects and their stories that have helped define it.
Tickets are available now at the usual £5, which includes a glass of fizz or something soft. For ticket bookings call us on 01434 632931, email or pop into the new bookshop at The Chapel, Corbridge, NE45 5AW.
