Joining us here in Corbridge, Tuesday 13th March, in conversation with author Frank Cottrell Boyce, we are delighted to welcome Graham Robb to Forum Books at The Chapel to discuss ‘The Debatable Land’.
‘A book worth reading’ Andrew Marr, Sunday Times
Exploring the forgotten territory which existed between Scotland and England, ‘The Debatable Land’ documents one of the most notorious, dangerous, and bloodiest cross-border communities in Britain.
As the last major area of Great Britain to be conquered – it’s population either deported or slaughtered – the Debatable Land appears to have been, through history and memory, completely erased from the map. When historian and writer Graham Robb moved to a lonely house on the edge of England, what began as idle curiosity developed into a journey of discovery: documenting battles, lost towns and roads, and of a centuries long international border tug-of-war.
As a fascinating 5 year investigation, from it’s ancient roots to our current political turmoil, ‘The Debatable Land’ stitches together a rich patchwork of the moors and meadows of rural borderland, and offers a crucial, missing piece in the puzzle of British history.
We hope you can join us with Graham, in conversation with author Frank Cottrell Boyce, on Tuesday 13th March at 7pm. Tickets are the usual £5 – which includes a glass of wine or something soft.
See you soon!
